Many historians point out that much of europe had depleted its forests and wood was not readily available
for construction.

I had a great dinner here at this outdoor restaurant in Brugge, Belgium (1999)
I ordered stone cooked shrimp and got this slab of stone that had been super-heated...
along with raw shrimp and vegetables to "sizzle" on the rock.
