Although our travel in the French Alps has been somewhat limited, we have seen some nice towns and some dramatic views of the mountains.
Although I think of the Alps as rugged mountains, they feel much more "civilized" and developed than the remote areas of our mountains like the Rockies.
Undoubtedly, this is because of the long history of habitation on the European continent.
