travel europe greece the island of santorini/thira oia
The town of Oia, formerly Apano Meria, is a cliffside village at the northwest end of Santorini/Thira Island reached by bus or boat from Thira, the main "port" city where cruise ships tender their guests ashore.
Oia, like Thira only smaller, is an architect's and photographer's delight with it beautiful white buildings with bright blue trim rising out of the stone cliffs.
It is still a bit less crowded than Thira, but probably not for much longer.
The village is spread out along the top of the end of the main ridge on the caldera and provides views both toward the water and north toward the island of Thirasia and the open sea.
