travel europe italy liguria the cinque terre riding the train

The easiest way to visit the Cinque Terre is to take the train from La Spezia or .
You can drive along the ridge to the high end of some of the villages, but you can't drive in.
Some villages have some parking along the highway, but it is scarce during tourist season.
You can purchase a ticket for one ride or for a time period, like a day.
There are senior discounts and the cost is relatively small.

Me at the Corniglia station, Cinque Terre, Liguria, Italy, 2017.
After arriving at Corniglia, you must either climb a steep hill or fight for a space on a shuttle bus.
If you are waiting for the bus, line up on the far side of the street, not the bus stop where the bus lets people off.
The bus will turn around before loading and everyone who wasn't in line on the far side will try to jump the line.
