travel italy veneto venice chiesa di san giacomo di rialto

ARCHITECT: UNIDENTIFIED (421, 1071)

Chiesa di San Giacomo di Rialto is a church in the sestiere of San Polo with one of the few surviving examples of a Gothic portico.
It has a large 15th-century clock above the entrance and has the floor plan of a Latin cross with a central dome.
The interior features ancient Greek marble columns with Veneto-Byzantine capitals dating from the 11th century.
Tradition says it is the oldest church in the city.
When we visited there were beautiful displays of old musical instruments.
