ARCHITECT: FENTRESS BRADBURN ARCHITECTS (1995)

When we visited Denver on our road trip in 2009, I made a specific point of visiting the new Jeppesen Terminal of the Denver International Airport.
My interest on visiting this, the largest airport by area in the United States, was based on many things...
First of all, I had spent several weeks in Denver in 1982 as an architect working on a major addition to the old Stapleton International Airport it replaced.
Secondly, I was curious about how the new airport was being received... it had been controversial because of its construction over an old military amunition dump.
Thirdly, I wanted to see the dramatic fabric roof system supported by catenary steel cables similar to the Brooklyn Bridge.
it is said this design was meant to reflect the profile of the Rockies as well as early native American plains dwellings.
I enjoyed the visit very much and took lots of pictures, but I was amazed at the apparent lack of crowds that had so plagued the old terminal.
