The Old Faithful Inn in the southern portion of Yellowstone, next to Old Faithful geyser, is a "wonderland" of heavy timber construction.
This lodge is one of 30 projects that Robert C. Reamer designed for Yellowstone between 1903 and 1937.
The main room is a grand scale gathering place for any and all visitors to the area, not just visitors at the Inn.
The shear scale of the timber construction, going up and up through the open atrium in the center, is a wonder in itself.
Although somewhat massive in its individual log components, it appear almost fradile in it's lacey layers piled one upon another in the darkness above.
There is a huge diningroom that often features game meats. Visitors to the main lobby can look down into the diningroom from the second floor balcony.
A slightly smaller, less formal, and more intimate bar restaurant is tucked behind the massive fireplace in the back left of the lobby area.
