ARCHITECT: JORN UTZON (1957-1973) WORLD HERITAGE SITE (2007)
Jorn Utzon's Sydney Opera House has long been on my bucket list for exceptional architecture.
In 2018, I finally got to visit it in person and was not disappointed in any way.
The Opera House anchors Syndey harbor in a way that few works of architecture have done worldwide.
The story of Utzon's winning of the competition for the design, his years of work with engineers to make it happen, his subsequent leaving of the project before it was finished,
and the design's ultimate designation as a World Heritage Site is an epic drama that anyone would find engrossing... expecially an architect.
In my opinion, the interiors of the Opera House that were completed after Utzon left were done nicely and complimentry to the architect's vision.
The fact that Utzon's son is working with the Opera House management to keep Utzon's vision consistent in any future work is comforting.
