travel south pacific new zealand wellington parliament parliament house

ARCHITECT: JOHN CAMPBELL F.R.I.B.A. (1922) Heritage New Zealand - Category 1

New Zealand Parliament House is the main building of the complex and is designed in the Neoclassical architectural style.
It contains the debating chamber, Speaker's office, visitors' center, and committee rooms.
It was strengthened and refurbished between 1991 and 1995 adding base isolation for earthquake protection.
A tour of the complex includes a look at these engineering isolation modifications which support the building allowing it to move on its foundation.

I found the architecture of Parliament House to accurately convey a sence of strength and permanence.
The stone used on the exterior of the building was beautifully executed and well balanced.
I also enjoyed the craftsman-like ironwork used on lamp posts and door screens.
