travel asia japan tokyo centennial hall
ARCHITECT: KAZUO SHINOHARA (1987)

Centennial Hall is a part of the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
My son and I visited this building on an architectural tour of Japan in 1998.
I was excited to see how this dramatic building envelope was handled in the interior plan and detailing.
As it turns out, this structure makes a big statement from the outside, but has no interest or focal point within.
It was a great disappointment.
